Let's Make A Deal!

You probably already know that I have a love for the t.v. show Extreme Couponing and all that comes with it. I have really been pleased with my ability to procure free things by contacting different merchants but what I didn't mention on my New Year's post was that getting those free things has snow balled and it just isn't enough...I want MORE.

So one of my much less spiritually or socially important resolutions is to not purchase anything that isn't on sale or without a coupon this year...I say this as I rub $30 Josie Maran argan cuticle oil on (it is a sample AND a gift so you know Im not that far off).  I started last week and I'm going to keep you updated and by the year's end the total savings will be reported and you will be shocked into submission and admit to yourself that you too should join in.  Make up is the one thing I am not willing to budge on, but clothes, salon services, and groceries I will do my damnedest to get for as close to free as I can.  My mum even gave me some gift certs towards restaurants so I will not totally be absent from the Boston restaurant scene.  I mean I'd love to get all of my drinks for free but a. times aint what they used to be and b. after coming into contact with a roofie coolata myself, it is actually safe most of the time to buy your own drinks.  However, it is still possible to get discounted drinks even if Boston does not repeal its Communist hatred towards happy hours.

Full disclosure: I am working for an online deal website that I will utilize and do love but there are many sites out there and I'm not rooting for one over another.  I actually get a lot of coupons in daily newspapers.

You can scour Boston.com, The Improper Bostonian and just generally check out the sandwich boards set up around town.  Even L'Espalier had some sort of deal last month that I noticed when walking home.  So there are deals out there and if I want the things in life that I say I do, then I am going to have to cut some corners.  Moving home in the spring will not only help me and my mum out so that we can hang out together for a bit but I can also save some money.  My mum doesnt believe in coupons, she thinks it takes more time to figure out the deals and cut the coupons out than the saved money is worth.  Yesterday I made her use coupons. Although she graciously offerred to purchase my groceries I still saved us a buttload of money.  I won't tell you how much she saved on her order but it was pretty good.  My original order was $100 and change and after using the right coupons (I try to pair coupons with stuff that is already on sale) and my store savings card I got it all for $69.00.  Not too shabby, 30% savings and it was all healthy food that I really wanted.

I want to start saving 50% or more but I need to learn more of the tricks of the trade.  I also have been doing really well with the clothes shopping.  I got amazing deals on gap.com and asos.com (which by the way has free shipping regardless of purchase amount, each way!).  I need/want clothes for Spain and just for the winter in general.  Plus part of me cutting myself a break and feeling better about life is also making the outside look like I want the inside to feel.  So I will let you all know how it goes, I could go all Duggar on the situation, no not start breeding like a jack rabbit, but saving the difference from what I got with coupons and sale purchases.  I'm not sure I can put the whole amount in the bank but at least part of it would start to replenish my savings.

I know what youre saying, "but you're going to Spain, if you dont have savings why are you travelling?"... because, go fuck yourself that why haha I mean some things are important to different people.  Some people love fancy cars, or shoes, or electronics.  Those things don't really do it for me, I can't take those things everywhere with me but the experiences that I get to have when I travel are totally worth it to me.  I know however that I might not always feel that way and so I need to start thinking about the future...barf.

Also, a complete boon from this adventure is that while I'm living in the city you have to walk or train farther to get what you want for a deal so you can end up with extra exercise, which hits on one of my other resolutions!
