Make Up Hoarders

I love Hoarders, the show not the people (not that I have anything against them).  I commented this weekend that A&E should have a show dedicated to the people who hoard episodes of the visually graphic, addictive reality/drama on their Tivos and DVRs (do they still have Tivo?).  However, it has made me think about the things I collect.  All things "makeup" have always been a focus for me and before that it was shoes.  What kind of toddler hoards "party shoes" and where were these parties I was so intent on attending in full party regalia?  Once I had my face made up for my first dance recital I was hooked.  I had dance/ballet/tap classes and one ill fated gymnastics episode (those who know me, know I'm not coordinated) for 8 years.  Those moves didn't really stick, not even with the help of high school's Darren's Dance Grooves, but what did stick with me was the magic of the preparation for the actual show.

I was obsessed with this book "Opening Night" by Rachel Isadora.  I tried to google image you a photo from the book but I couldn't find a single one.  I definitely recommend it though for a little girl, or a little boy I guess if he's into dance, you can find it on Amazon.  The preparation of the dancers in the book just clicked with me and the transformation from one thing to another with hair, make up, and costume really captivated me.  In my child's mind I thought I always had the attention of anyone who was with me.  My mum said I knew how to "work the room" as a little kid.  But I think I especially had confidence when I was all madeup and dressed up in some ridiculous lycra onesie twirling around on stage like a drunken sailor.  I never really knew what I was doing, I still don't, but when I looked the part I really felt like I could do it.

So this may seem like an excuse for my over abundance of makeup but some people love cats, or old milk jugs, or back issues of The Saturday Evening Post... At least my collection doesn't come with cockroaches and visits from APS, yet.  So I will break down what was in my kit last week because embarrassingly, I do have more since then... and I am not even touching my freebies because I have more samples than I know what to do with. The samples were free though so I don't really feel bad about squirreling them away.  I'm also going to tell you my favorite item in each category... or favorites as the case may be.
Count: 30
Favorite Red: Stila Long Wear in 'Lover' $20
Favorite Gloss: Buxom 'Trixie' $18

Count: About 25, after the photo I realized I had forgotten a couple
Favorite Foundation: Chanel Perfection Lumiere $55
Favorite Item: Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum $32
(phew long name but its all natural goodness and seriously gives you a natural glow)

Count: About 35 (you see how I used a label maker on some of the less obvious ones?)
Favorite Mascara: Tie - Maybelline Great Lash and Maybelline Volume Express Falsies
$6.49-$8.49
I love both of these products and work 100% better than any expensive mascara and I get compliments all the time on my lashes.  I have individual false lashes for special occasions, just for application on the corners of the eyes but that's a rarity... Maybelline does the trick

Favorite Shadow: I really cannot choose but I do love the Bare Minerals Eye Color in 'Drama' and 'Queen Phyllis' $13 I don't think they are making it anymore, or soon they will retire it wahhhh

Eye Palettes Count: 4, and counting
Favorite: Definitely the Urban Decay Naked Palette $48 (they just released a new one as well)
I have my eye on more of these, I think I would like to start a MAC collection as well.  They are easy to transport, as long as you pack them well, and last a long time.  You will have the ability to make so many more looks and it ends up being more cost effective.

So yeah thats it.  Maybe I should take back my old hobby of baking because it has been a longggg time, so long in fact that my downstairs neighbor just came up for a cup of sugar and I didn't even have that!  Baking is cheaper than makeup, but more fattening.

So I have a lot of make up and I can make all of it work depending on who you are so let me pretend you're that creepy Barbie head from the '80's and do your makeup one night!
